One of the greatest San Diego Padres to have played the game is Mr. Padre himself, Tony Gwynn, who would have turned 57 today.
The late Gwynn who died three years ago of cancer had quite the storied career, batting .338 with 3,141 hits, 1,138 RBIS and 135 homeruns in his 20 years playing exclusively for the Padres.
The hall of famer was also a 15-time All Star and great defensively being awarded the Gold Glove five times.
If you’re looking to add a Tony Gwynn rookie card to your collection, the 1983 Topps card #482 is a great one to start with. Arguably his most popular rookie card, a PSA Graded 10 rookie card hovers around the $600 mark.
For those looking for a more affordable option, a PSA Graded 9 can be bought for around $75.
