The hobby box of the 2016-2017 Upper Deck SP Authentic is officially release late April, but the strong rookie class has collectors waiting in great anticipation.
Leading the class is arguably Toronto Maple Leafs’ Auston Matthews who after 80 games played in his rookie season has scored 39 goals incredibly.
So how much would the young Leafs’ phenom’s SP Authentic Autograph Watch rookie card be worth if it was BGS Graded 9.5/10?
Maybe using some current players as a benchmark could offer a clue.
Last year’s rookie sensation Connor McDavid’s 2015 SP Authentic auto rookie recently sold for just more than $1,000 (BGS Graded 9.5/10). More surprisingly, Sidney Crosby’s 2005 SP Authentic auto rookie went for $900 (BGS Graded 9.5/10) a couple months ago.
It seems when it comes to hockey players, the potential of a younger top prospect props the value higher.
A calculated guess then for the value of Matthews’ auto rookie card could be as high as $800 with potential to cross the four-digit threshold in no time.
