Our vintage card profile today is the great Los Angeles Dodgers pitcher Sandy Koufax … long before Clayton Kershaw established his dominance in the City of Angels.
Screen Shot 2017-04-07 at 4.05.44 PM.pngPlayer: Sandy Koufax
Career: Played for 12 seasons for the Brooklyn/Los Angeles Dodgers from 1955 to 1966, winning three Cy Young awards (in 1963, 1965, 1966) making him the first three-time winner in Major League history. He didn’t buckle under the pressure either, boasting an ERA of under 1.00 in his World Series appearances.
Card facts: 1955 Topps #123 is the only recognized rookie card belonging to this Dodgers lefty pitcher. According to the Professional Sports Authenticator (PSA), this card is tough to find well-centered and the yellow background lends itself easily to some print damage.
On sale: Currently on sale for a cool $250,000 (PSA Graded MINT 9) as of April 7, 2017. Lesser graded cards can be found for $20,000 for a PSA 8 and $7,500 for a PSA 7.
