The rise, fall, and then rise of LA Dodgers Cody Bellinger's rookie card value

Like many top prospects, the rookie card value of Los Angeles Dodgers’ Cody Bellinger saw a big uptick before the season started.
Hope springs eternal after all and it was all roses before he even swung a Major League at bat with the expectation of the natural first baseman to be a stud player right out of the gate. His 2015 Bowman Chrome Prospects autographed card’s value increased accordingly.
bellingerBut then his pre-season stats couldn’t reach the impossible expectation and hype set upon him. And his card value, not surprisingly, took a slight tumble (as seen in the chart within this link).
A few weeks later, Bellinger had the opportunity to play in the big leagues and all he seemed he needed was time to figure things out – and boy did he!
Here’s an impressive stat line for the 21-year-old: in 41 plate appearances to date, he’s hit four homeruns, knocked in nine RBIs, scored nine runs and is batting .342.
While there was talk of sending him back down to the minors, his stats are making it hard for the Dodgers organization to do so. With Adrian Gonzalez on the DL, that will extend Bellinger’s stay with the big-league club, but for both Dodgers and baseball card fans, we’re all hoping he remains where he is as long as he continues to rake.
That buy-low opportunity is long gone (when it sold for about $170 for a BGS Graded 9.5/10 base autographed card) and has seen an upward climb to about $250 now.
We wouldn’t be surprised to see it surpass $300 within the month and beyond if Bellinger keeps this torrid pace for the rest of the season.
