I’ve been keeping an eye on the value of San Diego Padres outfielder Manuel (Manny) Margot for awhile now and just recently decided to pull the trigger on getting his 2014 Bowman Chrome auto refractor (BGS Graded 9.5) rookie card.
One of the factors is that Keith Law’s recent article (for ESPN insiders) puts Margot as the number four prospect/rookie to make the biggest impact in the upcoming 2017 season.
As a former Boston Red Sox prospect who was traded to the Padres as part of the Craig Kimbrel trade (which Red Sox GM Dave Dombrowski admitted it was a painful move), Margot certainly has the potential to break through.
Projected to be the Padres’ everyday centerfielder, Margot has plus speed with the ability needed to play defence well in the spacious confines of Petco Park. That speed can certainly help him in the steals category and boost his average with some doubles and triples thrown in for good measure.
While it would have been better for his value to have remained a part of the Red Sox system, the auto refractor graded card valued at $60 seems to be a great buy low opportunity.
If he can even demonstrate a flash of his potential talent to start off the season, that buy low window will shut closed faster than Margot can run.
