Regardless of where you stand in the Sidney Crosby vs. Alexander Ovechkin “who is the best player now” debate, it’s only fair we come up with our top 3 of Sidney Crosby rookie cards as we did with Ovie.
After all, Sidney Crosby has been a dominant force in the NHL since his debut in 2005 and has amassed an impressive list of achievements and accolades throughout his career.
Crosby was selected first overall in the NHL Entry Draft by the Pittsburgh Penguins in 2005 making his NHL debut in the same year. In his rookie season, Crosby scored 39 goals and had 63 assists, earning him the Calder Memorial Trophy as the NHL’s top rookie.
If you’re looking for Sidney Crosby rookie cards, check out the following recommendations below.
2005-2006 SP Authentic #181 Sidney Crosby Rookie Cards
We can’t not include his SP Authentic “future watch” autographed card, which is serial numbered to 999 and a popular brand for those chasing autographed rookie cards.
His autograph is clean and also consists of his number (87) which is a nice personal touch.
Any Crosby fan would be lucky to have this as part of their collection although one that’s BGS Graded 9.5/10 or higher could be rather pricey now.
2005-2006 Upper Deck Artifacts #224 Sidney Crosby Rookie Cards
Here’s a nice looking card, well-centred with a clean design, which also indicates it’s part of a rookie set.
Although it’s not autographed, it is serial numbered to 750.
The foil of the Upper Deck logo and player’s name is a nice added touch.
2005-2006 Upper Deck Young Guns Sidney Crosby Rookie Cards
Even more popular than the aforementioned SP Authentic autographed card is the Upper Deck Young Guns rookie cards for most hockey card collectors.
Crosby’s Young Guns card is extremely popular despite not being autographed or serial numbered.
The prices on eBay for cards graded 9.5 or higher indicate there is still a big demand for them.
MORE ON SIDNEY CROSBY: Some of his accolades and achievements include winning his first Art Ross Trophy as the league’s top scorer in 2007, and his first Hart Trophy as the NHL’s most valuable player in 2008.
Known as a true team leader, Crosby was named the Penguins’ captain in 2007 at just 19 years old, making him the youngest captain in NHL history at the time. He has since led the Penguins to three Stanley Cup championships, in 2009, 2016, and 2017.
