Here’s an interesting article on the baseballamerica.com website making a case for Shohei Ohtani of the Los Angeles Angels to win this year’s American League Rookie of the Year Award.
Of course, what he was able to accomplish both on the mound (when healthy) and with the bat is pretty extraordinary. It has been quite some time to see a player who can both pitch and bat at such a high level.
Although some may tag Gleyber Torres or even dark horse candidate Miguel Andujar of the New York Yankees as more deserving to win the award, it doesn’t appear Ohtani’s autograph rookie cards will take much of a dip even if he doesn’t win.
While a Tommy John surgery is likely, Ohtani could still bat in 2019 with fans looking forward to seeing him pitch again in 2020.
