With the baseball season just around the corner, some of the highly-touted prospects will be sent down (if not already) to develop their skills further in the minors or to wait just a little while longer for an opportunity to arise to play in the big leagues.
One prospect to watch out for is outfielder Austin Meadows who is currently MLB.com’s number 9 prospect overall.
Screen Shot 2017-03-29 at 11.17.28 AM.pngHe certainly has the pedigree of a top prospect, having been drafted in the first round in 2013 and showing power/speed potential in both Double-A and Triple-A ball.
The one concern is that he’s had the injury bug early in his young professional baseball career with the latest being an oblique injury.
But it could present a good buy-low opportunity as Meadows waits his turn to play in a currently crowded and stacked Pirates outfield consisting of star players Starling Marte, Andrew McCutchen, and Gregory Polanco (another buy-low candidate).
When that time comes, however, Meadows, who is working on how to approach the upper-tier pitchers that he’ll face off against in the Major Leagues, should see his rookie card value get a nice boost.
Currently, his 2013 Bowman Chrome base auto (BGS Graded 9.5/10) costs around $105 – a good value for a potential future superstar.
