It’s been a little bit of a mystery why the New York Mets organization hasn’t given more playing time to Michael Conforto this season until recently.
With a top prospect pedigree, Conforto went through his adjustment period as most prospects do, but he flashed his skills to show that he could be an every day player.
The Mets apparently didn’t think so as he had a hard time beating out Yoenis Cespedes, Curtis Granderson, Juan Lagares, Alejandro De Aza and Brandon Nimmo this past season. Oh, there was also Jay Bruce who joined the Mets roster late that season.
Granted, he experienced some short-term injury issues, and he couldn’t hit lefties for awhile, resulting in his overall .220 batting average in 2016. But now that he’s healthy, Conforto seems to have found his swing – against both lefties and righties – and is currently batting .351 with an impressive seven homeruns and 18 RBIs.
His regular playing time over the past two weeks has yielded positive results for the Mets who have struggled as a team to start off the 2017 season.
Conforto should have bought himself more consistent at bats and hopefully that translates to great stats that some prospectors were expecting last year.
The time then to invest in Conforto is now with his 2014 Bowman Chrome Draft Pick base autographed rookie card (BGS Graded 9.5/10) currently on sale for around $100. Expect his stock to rise in the coming months.
