Regarded as one of the greatest basketball players of all time, Larry “The Legend” Bird was drafted by the Boston Celtics in the 1978 NBA draft.

He ended up winning rookie of the year honors in 1980 and throughout his career, Bird’s tremendous talent and clutch performances earned him numerous accolades, including three NBA championships and two Olympic gold medals.

MORE INFO ON LARRY BIRD: Bird’s professional career began in 1979 when he joined the Boston Celtics. Bird quickly established himself as one of the most dominant players in the league, earning the NBA Rookie of the Year award in 1980.

Bird would make his presence known, helping lead the Celtics to several championships, including three in 1981, 1984, and 1986, and was named the NBA Finals MVP each time.

Bird had exceptional shooting ability and he was an excellent three-point shooter. His career was also characterized by his intense competitiveness especially toward his biggest rival, Magic Johnson of the Los Angeles Lakers.
