Minnesota Twins' Byron Buxton: the ultimate boom or bust player

Coming up with such huge hype, it was almost inevitable that Minnesota Twins’ outfielder Byron Buxton would fail to live to the super lofty expectations.
But no one expected him to underachieve the way he did in his first couple stints in the big leagues. Buxton batted under .200 in his 2016 through 63 games.
He also battled injuries and that quickly derailed any opportunity for regular playing time.
But there’s still hope for Buxton who is still only 23 years old and has flashed some of his power and speed combo to end last season.
Coming into 2017, the big question is, “Will he be able to build off of his late season success and become closer to the hyped prospect he was expected to become?”
Buxton’s most optimistic projection could be a 20 HR, 40-steal season, putting him in elite company of the best power/speed players.
If you believe he’s able to reach that potential, his 2013 Bowman Chrome Prospect base auto (BGS Graded 9.5/10) card currently valued at $125 is a real steal.
Of course, he could be one of those players that are super streaky with his hot streaks followed by frigid cold ones. In that case, his rookie card value could remain stagnant until collectors realize he may never reach the potential many scouts initially saw in him.
Time will tell. But for early investors, a decision to take the risk of buying low might have to be made in the next month or so.
