With the craziness of the hobby, especially around modern basketball cards, it’s easy to overlook the more vintage basketball card market.
One card that has seen steady growth over the years is LA Lakers great and Hall of Famer, Magic Johnson.
It might not skyrocket to Michael Jordan rookie card values, but both Magic Johnson rookie cards and other autograph cards are still popular for high-end basketball card collectors.
Here are some of the ones we like best with links provided on where they are listed currently.
1. 1980 Topps Rookie Card (also featuring Larry Bird)
This is arguably Magic Johnson’s most valued rookie card although he shares his image on the card with iconic Boston Celtic Larry Bird and fellow Hall of Famer Julius Erving.
Well-graded PSA cards will already fetch five figures easy.
2. 1981 Topps Solo Rookie Card #21
Purists might not consider this a rookie card since Magic had a card issued in the aforementioned 1980 Topps set.
But if you’re looking for one of his first cards featuring him alone on the card, this one is probably your best choice.
Well-graded cards still cost in the thousands but some with lower quality can be found at affordable prices.
3. 2009 Exquisite Limited Logos Patch Autograph Card
This is definitely not a rookie card, but for collectors who want the on-card autograph as well as a patch relic, this card might be for you.
The 2009 Exquisite Limited Logos card is very limited numbered to 16, so this high-end card will cost thousands as expected.
