Okay, we fully admit that, in hindsight, making the comparison between Derek Jeter and the potential of top prospect Gleyber Torres is really early. I mean, really, really early.
But articles like this one on Fox Business asking whether Aaron Judge is the next Jeter are probably a little too optimistic.
Sure, Judge is having a tremendous start to the 2017 season currently tied on top of the league with the most homeruns (as of May 11), batting an impressive .317 with a 1.173 OPS.
As a result, it’s no real surprise to see his 2013 Bowman Chrome Draft base autographed rookie card going for more than $425. Compared that to his beginning of the season value at less than $100 when there were questions of his huge strikeout rate.
It could still climb higher even if Judge continues to hit at a slower pace. But it goes without saying, if you had his rookie card a few months ago, now is a good time to sell high.
As for being the next Jeter? Let’s see how he performs over the next 19 seasons and if he can help bring the Yankees five World Series championships.
