If you ask almost anyone connected with the game of baseball to name who they think is the best pitcher of this generation, chances are they will tell you it’s Los Angeles Dodgers Clayton Kershaw.
As Kershaw begins solidifying his Hall of Fame resume, collectors interested in acquiring one of his rookie cards should consider one of the three cards below.
2006 Bowman Chrome Prospect Autograph #DP84
Kershaw’s Bowman Chrome prospect card is considered to be most valued of his rookie cards. Unlike many prospect cards, it has him wearing the uniform of the big-league club he would play his entire career (so far) with.
As with any Bowman Chrome prospect card, the autograph version will be the one that is sought after by collectors. There are also several refractor parallels available at higher price points, but even a base auto will not come cheap.
2008 Upper Deck SPX Rookie Signatures #151
A more affordable, but still desired Kershaw RC is his 2008 SPx RC Card.
The card features an on-card autograph which is always a plus. The actual design of the card is also rather appealing as it is the boldest design among all the autograph Kershaw cards available.
One neat feature as well is that the card is issued by Upper Deck, before MLB signed a licensing agreement with Topps. This means the Dodgers team name (along with other MLB trademarks) can be used on the card.
2008 Upper Deck Ultimate Collection #107
This is another offering from Upper Deck, but from their Ultimate Collection set.
Numbered to only 99, this rookie card is highly desired by card collectors due to its scarcity. For collectors with a bit more cash, you can also consider the Gold parallel numbered to 25.
What’s neat about this card is that the autograph is actually directly on top of the jersey relic. It’s a bit surprising that we do not see this more often, but at least for Kershaw fans, you can have this unique feature if you get this card.
