Okay, so if you’ve been following our website at fivecardguys.com for the past few months, you might have already seen an article about Pittsburgh Pirates Gregory Polanco.
Here it is if you’re a new visitor (welcome by the way!)
I’ll point out one part of that article I still stand by and more so today after seeing his performance in the World Baseball Classic.
I wrote: I remember bidding (and losing) on eBay for his base auto rookie card (BGS Graded 9.5), which was eventually sold for $110.
Today, it is selling for $49.
Now, I actually think Polanco is a good buy low at that price. But you’ll have to be more patient with him and play the long game, waiting for his sustained success on the field to boost his value.
The reason for this article is that the $79 value for a 2013 Bowman Chrome (BGS Graded 9.5 base auto) rookie card is already rising from the $49 it sold for routinely a couple months ago.
Polanco has always had the talent but this might be the year he puts it all together. He certainly showed his offensive and running skills when he batted 11 for 19 in the WBC this year playing for the stacked Dominican Republic team.
One high-level evaluator even told an ESPN writer that Polanco could have better numbers by the end of the season than even Andrew McCutchen and Starling Marte.
If you believe that, the time to buy low on Polanco is rapidly closing.
